WINS, Trusts, and two domains

By djpotter ·
OK. I asked a variation of this before, and the results didn't work. Here's my problem: I've got two NT domains. Domain A cannot see Domain B. I've a 2-way trust established. Domain B can see domain A for shares, etc. However: User Manager in either domain cannot see the other domain. I've a WINS server in Domain B, and no WINS server in Domain A. Domain A points to an off-site (WAN connected) WINS Server at HQ. What do I need to do to get these two domains to play nice together?

First, establish WINS replication between the 2 WINS servers. Before that remove any static entry from each database. Let things settle down for a couple of hours. Make sure sure replication has occured. Then make your trust(s) and you'll be happy. E-mail me if you need more info.

Ok, here's a curve for you. I read answer1, sounds promising. But... can your Domain A WINS server ping across to the other side of Domain B's router? If not, you'll need to make some additions to your routing tables. Since I don't know what you areusing for hardware, I won't assume that this is an automatic process.

Also, since I'm new to this discussion, I'll just tell you what springs to mind and hope I'm not repeating everything you already know.

Sounds to me like only one of your two one-way trusts is working. Did you get the confirmation message on both servers when you entered the password for the trusting domain?

If domain B can see Domain A, then Domain B is trust-ed, Domain A is trust-ing. If the accounts in the trusted domain directory service are not showing up in Domain A user manager: one way to test the theory that you have a WINS resolution problem is to create an entry for Domain B's PDC in the Domain A LMHOSTS file, and enable LMHOSTS lookup in TCP/IP Properties. This should w
