Winsock Problem

by gemailhiot . Updated 25 years, 8 months ago

Setup is as follows:
Pentium II 300 Mhz, 64MB RAM, 5.6GB HDD, plenty of disk left, ESS 56K Data/Fax/Modem

Windows 98, Internet Explorer 4.0, Netscape 4.5, Symantec Systemworks 2000.

Starting a DUN connectoid works fine, gets connected and all.

Starting Internet Explorer returns the following message:
“Could not find high enough version of Winsock”
ICQ loading returns:
“Sockets Initialization failed”
Netscape also will not load. Even Symantec Live Update complains of the winsock.

I have removed DUN, restarted the computer, re-installed DUN – no change.

I have re-installed Windows 98 – no change

To note:
When Internet Explorer opens up, even after re-install of Win98, the title bar says
“MIcrosoft Internet Explorer provided by PC Magazine …Toolkit”

Checked Windock.Dll – version 4.10.1998

Any idea?

Thanks for your help!
