winXP Bootup Issues

hi guys,

i am having P4 1.6 ghz 384 MB DDR problem is that now when i switch on the PC on boot up a messa ge comes as " Missing operating system" i do not have any other os instaled as wel as i checked the boot seq. on bios its fine.. what do you guys think? Need help fast.

Is your bios detecting the hd that should have windows? If not make sure your cables are secure and the jumpers are correct.

Try doing a fix /mbr with an fdisk cd. If that does not work try doing a repair. If that does not work try installing windows again to see what happens if the problem continues then you may have a bad hard drive.

it's a brand new HDD. i checked it out it's working fine...

Check the boot sequence in your bios first. If you have multiple drives ; make sure you are booting to the correct drive/device.

If still no good check the partitions in dos mode or with ie. a hard drive installation disk.

If you've elected to use NT format ; I've seen cases where ghost partitions were created at the beginning of the drive.

Anyway if the partition table looks sound then you will probably have to re-install.

You may also try a boot sector repairer ; but if the PC still can't find the operating system ; re-install , if still bad then there is a problem with hardware or the bios.
