WinXp connecting backwards

I'm using a WinXp notebook and I'm trying to connect back to Window 2K.There is a authentication box pop-up.There is no password set on the Win2k as well.Same happen to my Windows98 WS where an aunthentication box pop-up when trying to connect to a WinXp notebook.My network is very simple with a few workstation and no DNS and WINS server around

Simply put any NT based MS system needs a user account to allow anyone to use it at the PC or by remote. Win2K is an NT based system as is XP. In both you can set them to auto log on a specific account, thus it looks like you do not have any user accounts, but you do.

Just go to each computer and create a user in the name of the other computer default user name and give it the same password as used on the other computer, I also create an account under the name of the other computer itself. Without the user account you cannot remote access the Win2K or WinXP computers.
