WinXP Defrag 4 Limited User

By justaperson ·
Is there any way to setup Windows XP to allow a limited rights user to run defrag?

Yes there is. But you will need the Admin credentials to set it up through the Scheduled Tasks applet.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks.

1. Click Add Scheduled Task
2. Click Next
3. Click Browse
4. Browse to the system32 folder in the WINDOWS folder
5. Drill through to the "dfrg.msc" icon and click on it
6. Type a name for this task or accept the default
7. Choose your setting. In your case choose "At Log On" and click Next
8. Enter the Admin credentials leaving the computer name preceeding it
9. Click Next and then Finish

That's it. However, the one thing I've learned with this applet is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But it basically goes after what you are trying to do. HTH, :)

I have never got the task schedluler to work as it requires input from the user. But the app can be assigned by an admin through GPOv any of the programs can be configured this way.
