WinXP encryption is working erratically

By godzillex ·
I have relocated and encrypted the location of "My Documents" folder to \MyDocs for security purposes. (Drive is my second logical disk partition.)
When I copy (or move) a file to another drive, WinXP (as expected) copies it in its encrypted state. However, when I go to the file's new location, and try to remove its encryption by doing: "Properties|Advanced..." and un-checking the "Encrypt contents to secure data" button, press OK, and Apply, I get the following error message:

------------------------------------------
Error Applying Attributes
T:\filename.ext
The system cannot find the path specified
------------------------------------------

Please note that the drive T: in the above message is an (encrypted) logical disk created by Jetico's BestCrypt software. I have used this procedure in the past and it has always worked. But it has stopped working since my latest reformat/re-install of WinXP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jetico

Call Jetico and see if you will need to reinstall the software with a new version on the XP client.

The SP 2 update screwed up a lot of software.

Well, the strange thing is that I had the thing working for months now while running the SP2 update, and I'd never come across this problem before.

Problem May Be Because Of Reinstall

by Aakash Shah In reply to

When you reinstalled Windows XP, did you export your public and private keys? If not, then your keys are lost because a reinstallation would create new keys for your user account even though the user name may be the same. Unfortunately, I don't know how to bypass the Windows XP encryption so I can't offer any advice there.
Good luck!
