I am running Win XP Pro on both my laptop and desktop. I am also using a linksys befw11s4 wireless router and I disabled dhcp on the router and statically assigned 192.168.1.100 to my desktop and 192.168.1.101 to my wireless card on my laptop. I also assigned 192.168.1.102 to the integrated nic on my laptop so that I could plug in an ethernet cable(when Im using my wireless I disable the integrated and vice versa)
I get to the internet on all three adapters no problem and I can ping my laptop from my desktop and vice versa, I can also remotely log on to my desktop through remote desktop from my laptop, but for some reason I can’t get either computer to see each other in “my network places” on my desktop it is blank I can even click on “view workgroup computers” and it displays nothing. On my laptop it will show LaptopHome(name of laptop) but nothing else. I have gone through the network setup wizard at least 10 times and have verified that my workgroup name is the same on both computers(HOMENETWORK) and I have named my desktop “DESKTOP” and my laptop “LAPTOPHOME”.
I have configed to go through a “residential gateway” as winxp calls it and it seems extremely wierd that i can log on remotely(uses port 3389) but I can’t share files through the windows interface. Has anyone ran into this problem. Maybe one of microsofts new security patch’s is not letting me share files. I don’t think that it’s the router because i’ve been able to share files before and there are no topology changes.
Any help is appreciated!!!
