    WinXP self reboot

    Locked

    by big nath ·

I’ve been running WinXP Pro for about 2 weeks now, and usually once at day, for no particular reason, the pc will reboot itself, usually when i click on something (i.e hyperlink, OK box) then works fine. Sometimes movement of the mouse has caused a reboot. Any ideas as to why this would be happening? All drivers are XP certified.

Removing Direct CD has been known to fix this problem.

If you right click My Computer/Properties/Advanced Tab/Startup and Recovery Settings and then uncheck Restart on failure(Automatically Restart on 2600), a screen will come up with error messages.
Here is a site that has more information:

Thanks for the help, the pc now doesn’t reboot unexpectedly, although I am still having problems. It now brings up the details of what happened on new look BSOD, but still renders the pc useless, with me needing to physically press the reset button for it to do anything.

        *sigh* I smell a format…
