winxp sound problem

By devan ·
The administrators of the computer are able to hear sound from the
applications
but the users are unable to hear sound from applications. The users are
however able to hear windows alerts sound.
Any ideas on how this can be rectified so that users can also
hear sound when using programs.

winxp sound problem

Possible problems could exist if the users have more restrictive access than the administrators, to test this. Add the problemed user to the administrator's group. Reboot, then test the software sounds. Then I would check the sounds icon in the control panel of the administrator and compare it to that of the user. Driver support for your specific sound card could be an issue too, but you did not reveal the make of card you are using. That info could be helpfull for anyone who wants to research your problem.

good luck

I am using a sound blaster live. I have looked at the user and administrator setting for sound but just couldn't find the problem. I had not changed anything since the install of XP so, this should be happenning on any machine. I did install on another PC, can't quite remember what sound card - probably a SB live, and got the same problem. Any suggestions on what settings in particular could be causing this.

Don't know if this will help, it didn't help me, but when I change the user to administrator, the sound then works.
Even with this, I still couldn't pinpoint the cause/problem.
