WinXP SP1 Post Installation Problem

After installing Windows XP SP1 every boot-up results in two identical error messages: “The Background Task Server has encountered a problem……”. The details include the
svModName: msvcrt.dll and it’s version 7.0.2600.1106.
How do I find out what might be causing the errors and correct it?
