WinXp User Rights

By jcryan1 ·
When I access the log-in prompts on any secure website, I cannot access the prompts to enter my user name and password. when i checked my internet settings i went to "tools" then "internet settings" and I got an error message that says "the operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. please contact your system administrator". There are no restrictions on this computer and I am the only person using it. I cannot access my User settings to change/fix problem either. Help please...

What Other Programs Are Installed?

Some anti-malware software like Spyware Blaster have a setting to prevent the "user" (malware) from changing the settings in IE.

You can usually access those settings through the Control Panel though.

Try this

Go to a command prompt and type in gpresult. this will tell you what group policies are being applied. This is a typical response message when a group policy is applied to a system. Even though the computer is stand alone now, the group policies may have been in affect some other time in the OS's life span.
