I am trying to get my Windows XP Pro PC at home to dial-up and connect to my other Windows XP Pro PC sitting in my office at my office. I have setup the PC at my office to “accept incoming conections” using XP’s built-in feature and have setup a user account and password for myself along with TCP/IP to allocate IP’s dynamically within the range I provided. I have setup a dial-up connection on my home PC to dialup the phone number connected to the modem in my office (dedicated line) and it answers whenever I dial but comes up with a login prompt saying “Windows was unable to conect to the nework using the user name and password you provided…” It also provides me with a DOMAIN textbox to enter a domain.
I know the username and password are correct from when I set it up but I cannot seem to authenticate. I have tried putting the name of the host PC (WATERFRONT) in the DOMAIN box and also tried putting the name of the workgroup (WORKGROUP) in the box too but it still doesnt authenticate and then drops out the connection.
I cannot seem to find ANY help on this issue from seaching the internet so hopefully somebody has had some experience with this before.
Neither PC is part of a domain, both are stand alone workgroup PC’s.
