What is a good program for wiping a HDD? What is the program that you suggested for my Inspiron?

HDD Wipe

Depending on the manufacturer you can go to their website and download their HDD utility. Not Dell the manufacture of the HDD.

I know WD has a utility that does a low level format, writes 0's to the entire section of the drive. Most manufacture's have a simular program.

Depends on what you want to do here

Wipe a HDD so it's very expensive to recover anything or kill an infection.

If it's the first Boot & Nuke works a treat as well as Kill Disc

Though if you just want to kill an Infection I use an old IBM Utility called Wipe & Zap. Only reason for this is it's quicker as it only runs 1 Wipe not several.

But the Problem is that IBM, Lenovo or Hitachi no longer has this utility available for download so you may really have to do some digging to find a copy.

I'm using dban right now

to wipe a bunch of old computers before disposal. Problem I'm running into is that 90% of them have bad floppy drives. So I found one that worked, and am just removing the hard drives from the others and wiping them all on this one machine :)
