Wired Auto Config service stuck?

By alexwrites ·
We've recently deployed 802.1x authentication at my company and are in the process of finalizing that project. However, one of the issues we keep running into is troubleshooting the "stuck" Wired Auto Config (dot3svc) Windows service. As the service responsible to send the PEAP authentication information from the end user to the authenticator, when it gets stuck that information is no longer passed on and the end user fails authentication. We figured a way to restart it remotely, or just let the user know that they need to log off and back on (or reboot PC), but I'm curious if anybody else has had this issue and was able to find a more permanent solution or hotfix for it. I've seen this happen about 70% on laptops and the rest on desktop PCs. OS on these is Windows XP SP3. Thanks for your help.
