Wireless Backup
I have right a wireless network of two laptops, I'm
thinking of investing in some sort of network based standalone disk set or
independent RAID.
Backing up to CD-R takes two much time. With the software I find, you have to run/maintain an OS and
whatever software backup solution you choose.
I've heard there are firewire backup devices that you can add to a network
that are mountable just like any other network drive. Of course, you have to
install and maintain backup routines on all of the clients and insure that
the write to and maintain connectivity with that drive.
What I'd like to get is a network based device that could conduct backups of
clients based on jobs stored on the device itself. In other words, the
device would go out and interrogate the clients for data to backup rather
than having the client deliver it to the server.
Obviously, the big boys like Veritas can do this, but I haven't seen a magic
box like this for the consumer market.
Thanks!
