Wireless Carts

By sselinger ·
We are looking at using wirless carts within our organization. These carts will use a small foot print dell computer with a flat screen monitor. The network connection will be provided by a Cisco 350 series wireless cart. The cart will be full mobile with a battery. I am looking for a vendor to provide a battery solution that will power this cart for 8 hours with a draw of 5 amps. I will award points for anyone who can point me towards that VAR.

Wireless Carts

I would look at one of the popular UPS manufacturers. Both APC (apcc.com) and Tripplite (tripplite.com) sell a wide range of models and will help you select the right one based upon your load and run-time requirements.

The APC Smart-Ups 3000 rack mount with additional batteries will run 8 hours at a slightly greater load than you specified.

SU3000RMXL3U + (3)SU48RMXLBP3U 7 hrs 59 mins

Here is a url to their page:

I am not trying to be flip. But your problem is not going to be finding the battery capacity to run your equipment, It's going to be training the Gorilla to drag that cart around.

cavedweller did his homework. APCs site has online calculators that will give your solution. The 3000 mentioned in his answer tips the scales at 134lbs. The aux batteries go around 155lbs. So your cart is up to 500lbs give or take a pound.

Are you locked in to the dell computers cause there are more practical solutions for what you are planning. Tablet computers and ruggedized notebooks. The power requirements are greatly reduced and can be provided with Aux batteries that don't cause physical harm to transport. Check out these links:
