Wireless compatablity

Can you have a mix of different wireless vendors on a wireless network. Example have wireless access point form Linksys and have wireless pc card from netgear aslong they are same 802 family.

Yes, if they are the same 802.11 family, they should work fine with other manufacturer's wireless nics/access points.

Some software is very specific about setting a local id and different manufacturers may have different terms for that setting.

You are usually best to work with one manufacturer though. It's easier to troubleshoot.

I've seen LinkSys and D-Link work together. I've also seen some of the SMC stuff work with LinkSys and D-Link. I have only used hubs/switches and nics from Netgear (never wireless -- so I can't speak to their wireless stuff).

Yes you can mix manufacturers, as long as they comply to the same standard but I must tell you that in my experiences with wireless, if you can stay with one manufacturer the better off you will be.
Different manufacturers have little quirks whichcan make things difficult to configure and to troubleshoot.
