Wireless Internet Help

by starchildren . Updated 15 years, 5 months ago

I have the following:
Windows XP on Desktop computer
Motorola modom, cable one
Tmobile HiPort Router (for home phone)
Netgear wireless router
Windows Vista on Laptop computer

Currently I have it setup as follows:
Modom connected to the HiPort router
Phone connected to the HiPort router
Desktop connected to the HiPort router

My Problem:
When I have the HiPort Router connected to the Netgear Wireless router, I have no internet connection for the desktop computer (regardless of if I connect the desktop to the wireless router or not). When I try to connect to the wireless router through my laptop I can make a local connection only (no internet).

What I would really like to know how to do:
How can I set this up so that,
1. I still get the phone service from tmobile through the HiPort Router,
2. I have internet connection to the desktop computer,
3. I also have connection to the internet through the laptop?

I have tried the following:
1. Connecting the modom to the wireless router and the netgear (wireless) router to the HiPort tmobile router, connecting the desktop computer to the netgear router, connecting the phone to the HiPort router. That results in: No phone service, no internet connection for the desktop or laptop.
2. Connecting the modom to the HiPort router, connecting the netgear router to the HiPort, and the desktop to the Netgear. This results in: No internet for either desktop or laptop, but I do have phone service.
3. Connection the modom to the HiPort, connecting the desktop to the Hiport, connecting the phone to the HiPort. This results in: Internet for the desktop and phone service.
4. Connecting the modom to the HiPort, connecting the phone to the HiPort, connecting the Netgear to the HiPort. This results in: Phone service, and local connection for the laptop but no internet.

So my question is:
How do I set up this network so that, I can connect to the internet through my wireless router using my laptop?
I would prefer to keep the internet on my desktop, and my phone service, as well as have the laptop connect to the internet, but I am not sure if thats possible. So if nothing else, I would like to be able to keep the phone service, and switch the internet connection from the desktop to the laptop as needed.
