Wireless Networking

By syadav69 ·
I have a D-Link wireless router that works fine with my DSL service. I want to switch to Comcast broadband cable service. When I try to connect my laptop through the wireless router and comcast modem, I am not able to connect to the internet even through the ethernet cable or wirelessly. If I directly connect to the Comcast cable modem, I have internet connection. Please suggest what am I doing wrong. Thanks.

You need to enter the Router setup program and change the settings to match what's needed for your Cable modem.

DSL and Cable modems usually have very different router settings.

Comcast does not require certain settings other than default factory settings, where as DSL may need PPP setup. So with that in mind if you enter the setup utility on the router and reset back to factory settings or manually set for automatic DHCP that will get you going again. Also make sure you are using WEP encryption since you are in the setup already. When done restart all equipment.

Try this...

I had some customers had same problems before. 1. Find a paper clip and reset your router.
2. Unplug the power cord and cable cord from modem and also unplug the power cord from router.
3. Connect the cable cord to modem first, then power cord for modem. Wait until all the lights normal or wait two to five minutes.
4. Connect the power cord for the router.
You should be fine after that. Don't forget setup security for the wireless.
