wireless not working when ethernet is unplugged

By rupesh_bhattacharjee ·
when working with a windows vista computer and a BT Home hub router, in a scenario i found that the wireless connection shows a perfect ip address and the connection shows connected when the ethernet cable is plugged in.I am able to connect to the internet without any problem. But when the ethernet cable is unplugged the LAN shows network cable unplugged and the wireless shows connected but the internet stops working. Can anybody give me some suggestion to sort out the problem?

When you say "the wireless shows connected but the internet stops working" WHERE does it say that it's connected?

Are you looking at the signal meter in the systray?
Have you checked the wireless status within Network Connections?
When you disconnect the Ethernet cable, have you FIRST disabled the LAN within Network Connections?

You should also be aware that ANY wireless connection will fail when the LAN connection is simultaneously enabled. It is an EITHER-OR connection. You cannot run with both enabled.

My second point may sound rather silly, but not all BT Home Hubs are wireless.

I suggest that you DISABLE the Local Area Network connection, ENABLE the Wireless connection, DISCONNECT the Ethernet cable, then SHUTDOWN.

NOT reboot.

Do a cold boot and switch on your wireless hardware switch AFTER your Desktop is fully loaded.

Try your wireless connection now.
