Wireless performance

by jporter . Updated 16 years, 9 months ago

I have both Verizon wireless broadband (personal) and AT&T wireless broadband (work)and on both I see intermittent, severe, performance issues. Most of the time everything works great. However every once in a while communication just stops. The broadband connection does not drop, but communication between my laptop and whatever application I am in stops completely, sometimes for a few seconds, and sometimes for close to a minute. Eventually communication resumes, but often the application I am in has timed out and disconnected, so I am left with a working wireless connection, but must start my application session over again, often losing whatever work was in progress.

It usually looks to me as if the wireless client is uploading data to big brother and stops dealing with application data for a short period, but I can’t tell for sure exactly what is happening.

Does that sound like network overload, overhead communication back to the carrier, or a bug?
