Wireless vs. Wired authentication and drive mappings

By maidenschmidt ·
Have a weird issue...

For the past few months we have a sporatic issue that effects network drive mappings. When a clinical user on a remote site logs in wireless the only get 3 out 5 drives mapped. When the same user uses a wired device all drives show up. This happens 1 or 2 times every 1 or 2 weeks. Because the drives that are missing allow our clinical app to work its becoming a big deal. The issue always self corrects in a few hours, but we are needing resolution. This happens to all wireless devices at this remote site.

We have checked the DC controllers, kix scripts, ADUC groups, security groups, and wireless devices thoroughly.

Does anyone have any ideas or need more info? Thanks.

The method of access [wired or wireless] shouldn't effect mapped drives if that method creates a connection. However if this is access via a moble device such as a phone, then there are other considerations.

Wireless vs. Wired authentication and drive mappings

We know Wireless vs. Wired should not matter, however, the fact remains that the same user standing next to one wired and one wireless device will only get 3 out of 5 network drives mapped on the wireless device. We are fairly stumped... and the fact that it happens so infrequently does not help. About the time we start analyzing the network and PC it self corrects.

Map to drive letter, or just access via URL?

Are you mapping something to a local drive letter, or just trying to access data via \\server\sharename

Can the application use a URL rather than a drive letter?

The application is campus wide and to all remote sites. Yet this only effects 1 remote site. So to change to a URL is not an option we want to explore yet. And this is \\server\sharename issue.
