WLAN

Hello,
How would you advise to secure a network with the wireless notebooks owned by students. The domain policy does not work on these laptops becuase they never logon on the domain. Once they are on the campus they get an ip address which let them free access to the internet. These laptops are 9 out of 10 never pathced and with old viruse defination. Which makes them a week link in our network.

Any suggestion or advise would be greatly appericiated.

Thank you.

Shashi Bhushan Yadav.

personally under the described situation I would separate the Wireless LAN from your main system with a router and restrict student access until you have a policy in place that forces compliance with obtaining the most recent protection. In other words, Set-up protection on your server and allow students to visit server to obtain recent patches and virus fixes. After they have sucessfully updated their PC's they will get a key allowing access until new patches and fixes are required.

hope this helps some
rick
