WMI Service Error

By david.odom ·
I have a few WinXP machines on my domain that whenever users try to log on, they get the following error "Unable to access Windows Management Instrumentation Service to read computer hostname. Logon locally and ensure WMI is functioning correctly." When I log on locally, all WMI settings are correct. When I go into the properties of WMI under computer management-services and applications, all WMI loads are successful save one, the provider. How do I fix this problem?

Make sure Computer names are not duplicated anywhere, start with a letter (not a digit), and does not contain invalid characters.
In TCP/IP properties check the computer's host name and domain are set up correctly.
