    Won’t Recognize the Modem

    Locked

    by tim d il ·

I have a Windows XP home pc that will not recognize a modem. I’ve been through three different modems to no avail yet. (USR, Harmony and Conexant/Dell) Any ideas? The guy at the computer store suggested that it may be the AOpen motherboard, but I’m not sure about that. Email me

Have you tried disabling the Com Ports in the motherboard BIOS to make sure that they aren’t conflicting?

Also, I’d boot into safe mode and make sure there are no modems or unknown devices listed in device manager. If so, delete them and let thesystem re-detect.

Have you tried using a different PCI slot? (or are these ISA, PCMCIA, ???)> Have you tried using an external modem?

When you say it isn’t recognized, do you mean at all (plug and pray never even acknowledges it) or that it installs but won’t respond to diagnostics or it shows with an error…or?

If these basic ideas don’t help, give me some more specifics about your problem. I’ll be glad to help….

      Good Luck!
