Word 2007 Learning Curve

by williamsmytheiii . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

I had the chance to work with Word 2007 on a Win XP machine. I don’t like Microsoft’s tactics, business practices, or licensing philosophy. I do, however, love Word and Excel.

Office 2007, Word at least, is awesome. I was writing and editing in no time. Their new menu system IS intuitive. I cannot believe that such a beautiful product came from Redmond. My hat is off the the User Interface team in the Office division.

Cost, however, makes it prohibitive. I have 6 home systems; installing even the Student version (we have 4 students in the house) and 1 full price (1/6 = Ubuntu Linux server) is more than a really good desktop system (4 X 150 + 300 = $900).

So, for now, we will have to do with Open Office 2.x. I am confident that the UI for OO will change very, very soon to mimic the awesome Office 2007 interface.

Good Job Microsoft! [never thought I would say that!]

Bill
