    Word 97 question

    by damian248 ·

How can I get my MS Word 97 app to prompt me to “save on exit”. In other words, my application does not prompt me to save the document upon exiting the program. I’ve checked under “tools” –> “options” –> “save” with little luck.

    Thanks,
    Damian

Look for the VBAWRD8.HLP file on the OFFICE 97 CDROM. It should be in the folder Office. In there you will find how the AutoExit() Macro Works. You have to program in your NORMAL.DOT an event called AutoExit(). This Event will automatically be called when you Exit the program. It works similar as the AutoNew() and AutoOpen() macros. In the AutoExit() you have to call the “Save() function”. Check VBAWRD8.HLP for the appropriate function name(s). For extra safety you can also program the AutoClose() event. I am not sure how Virusscanners will react to the AutoExit and AutoClose though. You have to test this. It might also mean that you have to disable the Macro protection in Word 97.

I maybe missing the question but, Word will only prompt you to save the file on exit if you make a change to that file. If no change is made then it will not prompt.

Try to make a shortcut on the desktop, and in the second tab, at the end of the path, you make a space and type /s or /e.

      Good luck

Have you tried to take the check out of “Allow Fast Saves” selection in the Save Options area?
