Word attachments being changed to .dat

By louis ·
I have a customer that I am trying to send emails to. The problem is that I am attaching a word document and when the customer receives, the extension has been changed to .dat. I am using Outlook 2000 as my mail package. The customer is running 2000 as well. Any ideas on how I can fix this.

The customers firewall is not recognizing the word attachment and not giving it the proper extension. We have a Watchguard firewall and it would not allow the attachment through unless we added the appropriate MIME format to the allowed in list. If this is confusing, e-mail me and I'll try to explain better.

If the attachment is being wrapped in winmail.dat, then the problem is due to the fact that you are sending the e-mail using RTF format and he cannot receive RTF format emails. Try sending the email using HTML or plain text and that should solve your problem.
