The Facts:
Netscape 4.72
Office 97 Professional
Novell 4.11
When a user receives an email with a WORD file attachment, Netscape attempts to launch WORD, but then errors with the following message:
“Unable to launch application. The application was not found.”
WORD has been installed into the default folder on the local hard drive.
If he chooses to Save The File To Disk, the file is saved and can be opened with WORD in any of the conventional ways.
Word runs fine from eitherthe Start Menu or the Desktop icon.
If he receives an EXCEL file attachment, EXCEL launches just as it should.
Then, if I log onto his computer as administrator and run his email, the WORD attachments open just as it should.
We have hundreds of users with similar computer systems running without problems.
The general consensus is that this is some sort of registry issue, but I have no idea how to go about figuring which registry entry I would look for.
