Word Macros

By dakota99 ·
What would effect the speed of Word Macros the most. The macros I run change font, color certain words or patterns, etc. They are quite detailed. The macros are very slow on bigger documents. When they are run, icons or other display items disappear. Like when system resources are low. Should I look into upgrading processor, RAM, video card, or something else.

you should look into performance monitor or system monitor whenever you run your macro. if there are a lot of pages per second it is a sign of memory shortage (when physical memory is scarce, the system starts writing to the paging file, the more disk space used and the greater the load on the disk system). if the processor queue length is mroe then 2, or is abnormally high or the % processor time counter's value often exceeds 80% then you might consider upgrading the processor.

hope this helps.

Upgrading is always a good thing to do, but many times it's "System Resources" that are affected not RAM etc. That can not be increased, except by reducing the number of applications open at any one time.

For long documents you might consider using the following line in your macro. It stops the screen from updating with every change:

ScreenUpdating = False
