Word printing problems

By boomio ·
I am having serious problems printing from word at the moment. We have 3 network printers(Canon IR2200) and when we anybody tries to print from an office application, the document keeps defaulting to the wrong tray.
When I go into file, page setup, the default tray is the plain paper tray and but this should be set to auto. No matter what I do I cant make this stick on auto.
Has anybody encountered a similar problem??
(office 2003 w/ either xp/w2k)

Hi - have you tried going to Start --> Printers & Faxes and then right clicking on the printer and selecting properties. You should be able to change the default tray setting there. You may need to have local admin rights to make the change permanent.

Printing works fine from pdfs and other applications, just not word. When I go into Printers and setting,<printer>,properties, all seems fine. Its just the page setup within word is where I see the problem

Sounds like it may be a driver issue. The only true things in common between the computers are Word, and the print driver. So either Word has an issue with this printer model, or there is an issue between Word and the print driver. Do you have another printer model you can get from somewhere and hook it up and test to see if you get the same results. If you do, then it may be an API issue with a networked printer. If you don't, then my money is on the driver. You could also try going into Printers and Faxes > File > Server Properties (without printer selected) and find the drivers tab, then delete the printer drivers. Then reinstall the latest drivers from Canon's web site and see if your results are any better.

All the other printers have no problems, its just these 3 canon's. So reinstall the drivers??

We had the same kind of problem at one hospital I worked at; we let the nurse?s select how they wanted the printer to work. One nurse kept changing the printer defaults to landscape and tray three, which was legal. And any one after she used it that did not change the setting had her settings by default.
It took alot of retraining to get them to reset the printer after they used it. This was with Win98 and NT server but it could still apply With XP and Server 2003.

I think that you'll find one of the recent Office or OS patches is responsible for your current trouble.. I've seen a similar thing on an IR3100 and I just removed the Printer Driver and rebooted the computer and then reinstalled the Printer Driver.

As you haven't mentioned any thing about problems with Scanning I would tend to think that this piece of the software package isn't installed as that is generally the first thing that you see go South when a new Patch takes out these Image Runner Photocopiers.

I'll check the patch version of office and patch version of xp/w2k, and see if uninstalling the latest patches works.
