WordPerfect11 printing slowdown

By AmberHaze ·
OK, I have researched this one on the net and it seems to be a somewhat common problem, but I have yet to find a suggested answer that worked... So I will throw it out here.

I have a client that has Wordperfect 11 and suddenly, it now takes about 45 seconds to "start" printing. All other printing on this computer is working normal and correct.
It makes no difference which brand or type of printer or if it is network based or local.

Things I have tried:
re-install of Wordperfect
raise the priority of the WP print service
increase the priority of background servcies
ensured there are no other processes running other than bare minimum.

As I mentioned earlier, based on google search, this seams to be something of a common problem, Just hoping someone out there has seen this and has a specific reason / solution for it.

Thanks

Not something that I've run into but by the same token when I applied SP2 I also did a clean install of Word Perfect 12 so I upgraded at the same time and Haven't seen any printing problems.
Prior to that I was running WP 11 on XP Pro without any problems but I did notice several things slow down considerably with the addition of SP2 that could be the problem here.

I don't know if that's any help but it should be a starting point.

Nice Thought, but unfortunately I have 2 other identical machines at the exact same service pack point without any difficulty.

How much memory is the program using when you open it? Is it page filing? Rob

Again, nice thought, but these machines have a half a gig ram, an there is no page filing going on.

It sounds like you already tried this first one:
http://support.corel.com/scripts/rightnow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=tO1J1m4i&p_lva=207718&p_faqid=207718&p_created=1065820125&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTI2MSwwJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9c2xvdyBwcmludCZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPTMmcF9wcm9kX2x2bDE9fmFueX4mcF9wcm9kX2x2bDI9fmFueX4mcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9sZXZlbD0yJnBfZmlsdGVyPWNudDoqO2ZhcXMuZmFxX2lkOjEzMjE1ICAgfHBzZXVkb190YmwubWFwX3Byb2R1Y3Q6OCAgICAgfCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=

But did you try these steps:
http://support.corel.com/scripts/rightnow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=tO1J1m4i&p_lva=207718&p_faqid=754014&p_created=1071007336&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTI2MSwwJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9c2xvdyBwcmludCZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPTMmcF9wcm9kX2x2bDE9fmFueX4mcF9wcm9kX2x2bDI9fmFueX4mcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9sZXZlbD0yJnBfZmlsdGVyPWNudDoqO2ZhcXMuZmFxX2lkOjEzMjE1ICAgfHBzZXVkb190YmwubWFwX3Byb2R1Y3Q6OCAgICAgfCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=

I also have a somewhat rhetorical question.
What has been installed recently that might affect overall performance?

You were right... I had already tried both of those.

Well if you have 2 other units where this isn't happening you'll need to look at the differences. Like what is the M'Board CPU combination like and the RAM Load as well as any Software Load there could quite easily be something different here that is causing the problem.

When all else is equal I would be looking at a software application using some of the ports used by WP 11 and slowing down the printing side of things as that piece of software is taking priority over all print services. If you can find a different software load I would try removing the offending piece of software and see if that makes a difference. Of course first make sure that they have the install disc for this piece of software as far to often I've run into companies loosing or incorrectly filling the install disc's and effectively loosing them.

I had already tried this but decided to take a second stab at it as I agreed that it was the most likely source of a solution. For the information of everyone, it turned out that it was a difference in Adobe versions (different patch level) that caused the difference. Rolled the one machine back to 6.x instead of 7.x and the problem went away.

Thanks all for the input
