Workgroup Model

I have 12 win2k pro system on as a peer to peer, 11 of which is mapped to a drive on 1 computer, when ever more than 10 try to excess the mapped drive an error comes up saying you have reached the 10 user limit. Microsoft says "Workgroups are quite useful for groups of 10 or less computers, and may be used with groups as large as 25 to 50 machines". They don't make mention that 10 is the absolute limit for a peer to peer to access a single mapped drive. Is there a work around for this they you know of or is it built into the kernel? Thank you Dennis

Please note that Win2k Pro in peer to peer scenario can only support 10 concurent connections at a time as stated by Microsoft. I recommend you to move your network to Win2k Server for more than 10 workstations.

I hope that there could be any reasonable answer on the microsoft technet site about this.

W2k pro has a maximum of 10 concurrent connections. I am not sure if you can successfully change this in w2k pro. But here is a link to changing it in the registry for 95/98/ME.

(remove any spaces)

Just remeber to backup your registry before changing anything.

Hope this helps

Like the other answers state, 10 concurrent connections is the max limit to Win2KPro. It is hard-coded, not something you can fix with a simple Registry tweak. You can't change this....
Unless you find an unauthorized, slightly illegal 3rd party product called NTSWITCH.
Do a search on Google for it, and you will see why it could help you. But, if you try it, you will invalidate your Microsoft licence for the Win2KPro box.
So, it is really a matter of how desperate your needs are!
