First you'll need Windows 2000/2003 Server running on a computer running the necessary services e.g services such as DNS,DHCP,IIS, and so on. Then, dcpromo the server to a domain controller. follow the Wizards screens to configure your DC. Next, those two XP machines need to join the domain.

For a full course on Windows 2000 server get some books on Microsfot MCP exam 70-215.

Right click on "My Computer" go to properties

Then the "Computer Name" tab

Then click the "Network ID" button and follow the wizard to join the domain.

Well, it's not so simple as it looks, all of the user setting and files will be lost so before doing that you'll need to backup the user files&setting (insert your XP boot CD and go to the additional options OR go accessories=>system tools=>files&setting), after you're ready with the backups you can proceed to Right Click My computer=>Properties=>Network Identification=>Properties=>Change the Workgroup radio button to Domain and type the Domain=>After that you'll be asked for a proper USER ID and PASSWORD to join the domain - they need to be accepted by the domain
