I have been doing IT contract work through agencies for 7 of the last 10 years. The last several years I have consistantly come upon situations where one agency is only capable/willing to submit my resume for consideration to the employer at one rate and another agency is telling me they can submit me at a different rate that sometimes is 25% more then the other agency. I suspect in these situations I’m being “low balled” by the lower paying agency?
I have been unshamefully lied to by recruiters in the past just to get me to accept and commit to a position. Only to learn the mistruths later when I start the position.
I also suspect that some recruiters I have talked to say they are submitting me to positions when in actuality they don’t and may have other candidates they are working for the position and just want to keep me out of the mix to limit the competion.
Seems like that anything goes these days – morally and ethically – when it comes to how recruitment agencies conduct business.
Have you also seen these practices in your experience? If yes, what steps can I take to recognize and head off these types of things.
