Worm Virus to lay dormant till Oct???

By r-kennedy ·
I am hearing so much about this virus that is spreading from srever to server. I hear Win 98 is going to pull through just fine were outher operating systems are going to catch it. Does anybody know anything about this worm and is it going to shut down computers all over country? Will it creep into our computers and open itself up in Oct?Do we continue to open our e mail attachments? If you do you may already have the worm.

Code Red Worm

by Addam Moody In reply to Worm Virus to lay dormant ...

The code red worm only affects windows NT4 and win2k servers running IIS.
If you are not running NT/2K with IIS, it wont affect you.

It simply uses your server to perform a packet flooding Denial of Service attack, against an IP address hidden in the body of the virus. This IP address is set prior to infection, and is seperate to the 'self-propogating' cycle that the worm goes through in order to spread.

You can find full details about this virus and most current virri at www.trendmicro.com
or alternatively go direct to their virus info page at http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/

Hope this answers your question.
