Would rather have articles than DoJos ?

By simon.rowe ·
I find many articles on this site informative, interesting and sometimes amusing - keep up the good work !

But I find it much more convenient to read an article than watch a video :

1. You don't need headphones
2. You can keep the article
3. You can come back to it easily if interrupted

E.g. the 'BIOS Pitfalls' dojo would be very useful as an article ?

What do others think ?

Also videos often jerky and slow across even a reasonable bandwidth link ....

Another vote against video

by CharlieSpencer In reply to Would rather have article ...

I'd much rather have text articles with photos or screenshots than videos. Videos don't display properly for me at work. If interrupted, it's easier for me to resume reading an article than resume watching a video; it's easy to reread the previous paragraph and remember the context. Personally I retain information better if I read it than if it's read to me.

I never watch the videos

because I hate to use earphones. Text articles are definitely a better way of getting most kinds of knowledge across, too - although the videos put out by the Open University of the UK may be an exception, but TR producers aren't up to their standard.

Prefer articles, myself.

They're easier to keep, easier to search, and can be printed if need be.

Every IT Dojo video is based on an article

by NickNielsen In reply to Would rather have article ...

And with only one exception I can recall, the link to the original article is included in the accompanying text.

For example, you can reach 10 common mistakes you should avoid when flashing your BIOS from the BIOS pitfalls dojo.

If you prefer text, read the text.

Edit: fix html
