By hmr7884 ·
I am getting an error disk write blue screen and when I try to run scandisk, disk defrag., or nortons systemworks 2001 it tells me there is something in drive C that its not supposed to be there. I aslo find errors with Nortons disk doctor but it gets fixed and I still get this error. How can I find out what it is ?

Usually you get these when the hard drive is bad... Best thing is to probably replace the hard drive... you also may be able to send it in to the drive manufactor if its defective and get it replaced for free... or if you have a warrenty on it thatwould also work to get it replaced.

You have one of two problems. Either a virus that has destroyed your master boot record or the harddrive itself is failing. You do not say what O/S you are using, however a simple test is by either using a boot disk (9 or your recovery disk (nt4) and attempt to fix the mbr. If you can get on to the drive, remove all valuable files immediately. Also, virus scan all files before putting them on any other system. Then attmep to do your disk repair. If you have been able to recover all needed files, I suggest a fdisk and repartition, then a fresh installation.

Paul.

Just because you replaced the drive two weeks ago does not rule out the faulty drive issue. I recently had to send back 3 HDDs, all brand new, because they had failures.

Before I would attempt to repair or replace the master boot record, I would just use a bootup disk, retrieve all my info and then start with a fresh fdisk and partition. Any file that I took off of that drive would be virus checked.

If you want a detailed setup, email me.
