Start off by looking at the Drive Makers Web Site

For a possible solution. Any supplied Software that came with the drive will be there along with directions for it's use.

If there is nothing there, is it Write Protected or do you just not have the rights to access the drive under 7?

If you don't have sufficient rights to access the data you need to take Ownership of the Files on the drive. Follow the directions here

Just remember to remove the space from between microsoft and .com to get a working URL.

Write Protection

No software came with the drive. Its a Buffalo Just Store 1TB External Hard Drive. I have had this drive for over a year, and I just started having this problem. Going to the website above didn't help me with removing the write protection.
