    Wrong Drive For Win ME

    Locked

    by otjuan ·

Purchased Maxtor Onetouch 111 USB drive in order to back up Dell notebook (WIN ME)

Oops! Onetouch supports WIN 2000 and above.

Any workarounds short of changing OS? I am not keen on OS upgrades.

    thanks

If you have a USB Driver for ME

The external HDD should work but you will not be able to use any of the provided software that comes with it to perform Auto Backup, Password Protect and the like.

However ME should recognize it as a standard USB Device and allow you to use it like that. As Seagate owns Maxtor now they do not offer any software for this model drive and ME so if you just want to use it as an external HDD without any of the added pieces of software it should work but unfortunately you’ll be unable to use the supplied software to do any of the functions that this unit is capable of performing.

Unless of course you are willing to go with the obvious and upgrade the OS to something newer like XP.

Same Problem: have driver but cannot access the disk

        by phredg ·

I have the same problem. I just want to use it as an external storage device so I don’t need any of the backup software. But I can’t even get it to work as that. I can see the disk in the device manager where it says the device is working properly. It also say that no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device. When I do try to update the driver it says the driver (DISKDRV.INF) is already loaded on the system. BUT the disk isn’t listed as a resource under My Computer. I’ve toggled multiple device settings (with reboots) but nothing seems to make the disk be listed under My Computer or otherwise allow the disk to be accessable. Any suggestions? Is there another driver I should look for and specify for this device? Any other settings needing to be adjusted? TIA.

But there is tons of software out there that is free or cheap that would accomplish the same thing as the manufacturer supplied software.
