I have a virus going by the name WYX in my hard drive boot sector. When I boot my computer, the AVG virus software, which I use, loads and detects the virus and instructs me to (R)-reboot using a diskette or a CD-rom that is not infected then use AVG rescue disk to clean the hard disk of the virus or (c)-continue at your own risk.
Naturally I chose (R)-reboot….only to end up at the same point. My computer is a Compaq and I’m using a Windows 98 SE OP CD-rom to boot.
The CD is a superior windows version than the one installed in my computer and I’m suspecting this might be the case.
My question is whether I’m doing the right thing, and if not is there another way of dealing with the problem. Please help.
