Xandros Dual Boot Oddity

By Jaqui ·
Ok, I set up a dual boot system between windows XP Pro and Xandros Linux.

every was fine, both installed and bootable.

Next afternoon, I'm asked what Xandros did to lock the network interface from getting online with windowx XP pro.

huh? say what?
how can Xandros disable the nic in windows?

I put a completely different distro on instead of Xandros, and windows was online with out having to touch anything in it.

anyone have any clue how Xandros disabled the nic in windows without changing a thing on the windows NTFS partitions?

That shouldn't have happened.

The only thing that I can think of is that when Xandros installed it must have written something to the NTFS Partition which is normal if only just to point the Boot Loader where to look for it on Boot Up and at the same time took control of the NIC.

It's been a long time since I've used Xandros but isn't the LAN the first thing to be installed? That is after the Partitioning is done I seem to remember something about Xandros installing the LAN first and then the rest of the system. It could have disabled the NIC when installed and prevented Windows getting it's Grubby Little Hands on it!

Or the obvious answer is that Xandros will not work with a Second Rate Lousy OS's like Windows.

But I seem to remember something about the NIC being the first part installed and something about it being Integral with any Dual Boot System. Something about it just taking control of any LAN Connection from the very start.

You may be right Col, but by changing distros it fixed the issue, so Xandros didn't alter anything on the windows partitions.

Xandros' docs don't mention this issue at all.
