XP and printer problems

By whitt4 ·
I am trying to get an HPt45 printer to work with XP, I downloaded the software and drivers from the HP site, but it still says that it has a communication problem. What do I need to do to get this printer to work with XP. It is an HP officejet T45 all in one in excellent condition used very little, so I would really like to keep this one.

Hi,

Your printer is certainly supported under WinXP so you should be able to get it to work.
Have you seen this part of the site? It has instructions on what to do in your situation.

Make absolutely certain that you have installed the printer cable that came with this device. Multifunction Printer/scanner/fax machines REQUIRES a special communications cable. Make sure the cable is sucure on both ends.

If you installed anyHP drivers for this printer before your XP installation or if you have tried multiple times you may have a registry problem. I recommend that you remove the install from Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs and then go through the registry and verify that all of the printer files are removed.

Then reinstall the 22.3 MB file from the hp donwload specifically for this printer and for XP. You should be okay if the cable is okay and the drivers are correctly installed.
