XP boots up when phone rings

By jkey ·
I have a Gateway computer with an internal modem for the fax machine and a cable modem for my internet experience. I also have AOL on my computer. My problem is when ever my phone rings the computer boots up. I don't know if it is caused by a setting in AOL or if it is related to XP. If anyone has any idea on solving this problem, please help me out.

I would start by checking the power management section of BIOS settings.

Make sure that Wake On Ring is not enabled.

The next place to look, is if any FAX or phone answering software is installed.
You would want to disable any wake on ring settings there.

This definitly seems like a bios problem. There should be a setting such as Wake On Ring in the BIOS as the user before had mentioned. But if it is not there it is possible that it could be a jumper on the motherboard that is enabling this feature. If the BIOS fix does not work then I would contact gateway and see if they can give you a description of the motherboard to disable the jumper for Wake On Ring.
