XP cannot browse CD

by alansmith1898 . Updated 18 years, 11 months ago

Hello. Please can anyone offer advice on the following problem. I have a IBM Thinkpad T41 with CDW/DVD combo. I can play audio cd and watch dvd’s fine so I know the drive is working. The problem is I cannot view the contents of any CD or DVD. Explorer shows the E:\ and the CD name. If I double click nothing happens. If i highlight the CD and click open noithing happens. If I load a cd autoplay kicks in and i select the option to browse folder – nothing happens.

I have deleted the drives via device manager and let XP reconfigure. I have installed and removed DVD recording Software. Same problem. Ive tried a second cd/dvd drive and that has the same problem so it looks like XP problem rather than hardware.

Currently have SP2 installed. I deleted the registry entries as per MS 314060. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
