Xp can’t load the installer for volume

    Locked

I am trying to load a USB storage device on my XP Pro system.
I currently have a 6-in-1 media card reader connect via USB.
When i try to hook up the external hd or my hp photosmart 100 printer, i get this error about not being able to load the installer for volume. afterwards i cant see the exernal hd.
I also tried to hook a network attached storage device which loads scsi adapters to talk to the unit across the lan. I also get he similar error “windows can not load the installer for scsiadapter”

System is Athlon Xp 1700+, 768mb Ram.
No scsi devices installed, usb camera, and usb 6-in-1 media card reader. networked to linksys 4port router. plenty of free disk space. Service pack 1 installed.

    Any ideas?

Be aware that some USB devices requires first to install the drivers and then to plug the device.
Be sure that the usb connector on the mainboard is compatible with the plugged device (USB 1.1 Or USB 2.0).
Try to uninstall first the 6in1 reader, then reffer to the user manual for the external device (if you need to install the drivers first), plug external storage, if it’s not working – uninstall drivers and PCcam also. Then try again.

The problem exists within WindowXP, not the drivers.
For any USB or SCSI device you add you get this error.
The final solution was to re-install windowsxp using the upgrade option.
