Just reinstall WinXP from legal CD

The easiest solution is to use the legal copy of Windows XP that came with your friend's PC.

XP Crash

New XP disk, legal of course - or depending on manufacturer it may have a hidden area on the disk that stores the software needed to reinstall windows XP - check your documentation or visit the manufs website.

Try this

by dbucyk In reply to xp crash----------

Press F8 and select "Boot to Last Known Good Configuration"

Or if it is a recovery CD or original CD, press F8 and enter into safe mode and do a system restore.

As long as system restore was not turned off before this happened, you'll have no problem fixing your problem. Just make sure you select a restore point at least a few days before the crash happened.

Sincerely,

A+ and Network+ technician
