I have exactly this problem on one of my laptops. in my case it is a broken circuit board from the laptop being dropped. it can however come from the keyboard cable being loose or having a poor connection. even though you have an external mouse connected, the system still responds to input from the force stick in the middle of the keyboard. remove, clean the connections and reinstall the keyboard.

Just for good measure I would thoroughly run anti-virus and spyware tools.

Next I would simply change mice - if the problem still occurs you know its not the mouse but the PC.

Next I would try validating the mouse-drive. If your using XP go to Control-Panel, Mouse. You will find that this windows dialog has a number of diagnostics and informational properties and the driver can be rolled-back uninstalled etc. I would simply start by doing simple things like upgrading the driver and move towards more radical things like uninstalling and re-installing the mouse driver.

Hope these suggestions help.
