XP Desktop with 2K look/feel?

By Senior Program Analyst ·
Im sure this has been asked before but havent found in search yet but,
Background:
Im currently running in a Solid Win2K network (PCs and Server). I recently purchased several Laptops for the purpose of Application Training. Until I roll my PCs over to XP I wanted to keep the look of 2K on the laptops to solve some of the confusion while learning the Applications. I want to keep XP on these machines {I find downgrading laptop operating systems can be a real problem-ie proper drivers, compatibility issues etc.)
Question: Is there a setting either in the registry or user accessible menues to allow changing XP desktop to look/act/feel 2K like?

Thanks HaHa For the quick answer.
Looks like that did set it - now I just need to verify if its Per User(profile) or by computer. I would assume that works Per User only so will need to instruct them to do that when then login. (I still need to set up roaming profiles and profile policies on my network - always something else to work on). Again Thanks and If anyone has a Per Computer setting in the Registry I would be glad to hear Otherwise I will close this question in the next day or so.

If all the new "XP" systems you are setting up have the same software and hardware and you will be using roaming profiles, your job just got extremely easier...

Log onto 1 new xp machine with all the programs and start menu you like. Right click taskbar, properties, select classic desktop...

Also do with with the desktop to get rid of that beautiful mountain scene...

Once that initial system is setup - do not personalise it for that user, just get everything you need in the right place... Log off and log onto it as the domain admin.

Copy that local profile to your roaming profile folder (i.e. \\server\profiles\new user). Save it so that it is setup for Everyone to use. That will be your default template from now on for the new machines.

Create all your user profile folders on the server and copy the "New User" contents to their folders... When they boot up, they will all have the same screen, you just have to modify their mail settings, favorites, etc.
