XP disable right click-refresh

By cldicre ·
Hi everyone. I need a way to disable users from right clicking on the desktop and clicking refresh.

Either by disabling right clicking on the desktop ONLY (right click needs to work anywhere else), or by removing the refresh option when right clicking on the desktop or right clicking anywhere is fine too.

I know this is a strange question, but would appriciate any help with this matter.

but according to this post it has been done, it is only a Nov 2007 post so it's pretty recent.

Solution

To disable Right clicking on the desktop go to Start, Run, and then paste the the first line, the repeat and paste the second line.
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v NoViewContextMenu /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
REG add HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v NoViewContextMenu /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

That should disable the right click menu on the desktop, it will also disable it in the Explorer results pane, but it should still be active everywhere else. A reboot is required after the registry change.
